Democracy is the core value of America, and it is dying in front of our eyes

Democracy is the core value of America, and it is dying in front of our eyes.

We should be working to ensure all citizens have ready access to voting, including enough polling places at convenient locations so no one has to wait in long lines to exercise their right to vote. But Republicans are working instead to decrease polling places, especially in communities of color.

It’s OK to be a Republican and be pissed off that the Republican party is doing this. It’s OK to believe in your Republican ideals and want to see that those ideas win at the ballot box. What’s happening now should be an affront to anybody who believes in the concept of fairness.

We saw it in Wisconsin in the April primary with huge lines in Milwaukee. Check out the graph below. The red dots were the number of polling places open in Milwaukee, and the blue circles were the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases from 1-31.

It recently occured in Georgia, and it is now happening in Kentucky. This is being done on purpose, and it’s sickening to watch.

We need a state legislature that will ensure every one of our citizens can vote easily and safely. Rob Swearingen purposefully failed to make that happen. If elected, I will fight for a stronger democracy. It is time for a change.
